I've posted an LG advert on before but this one for the LG Viewty mobile phone incorporates a flick book and it follows a story of loading a gun and firing it through time missing a number of objects until it explodes speeding up throughout showing the phones capabilities i.e. 120 frame per second high speed recording. The illustration is inspiring and the ability to draw many different sketches to create a film would be something i'd be interested in pursuing.

Mark Gowing Design
I came across this and really liked the simplicity and colours of them. 'Mark Gowing Design' have come up with this logo for design hub and created a whole alphabet typeface by repeating the logo, so easy to do but you just have to think about doing it yourself.
Black Cab, Liverpool John Lennon Airport
On going to Liverpool John Lennon Airport during the summer I was intrigued by the black cab sitting in the terminal building on closer look I found it was part of the Turner Prize exhibition in Liverpool. The taxi boasts a large display screen and speakers around the passenger section. The film shows customers thoughts whilst being taken to their destinations about Liverpool being the capital of culture 2008 and hosting the 2007 Turner Prize. This is a great way to show feedback of local people and is interesting as an art installation.

A microsite by mini you enter a website or an image and then mini drives through an arena and smashes into your chosen image. Something a little different thats worth a look and is perfectly in tandem with the mini brand. Worth a look.
BMW
I was just wondering around in my hometown when I came across this BMW parked in the street and it just made me smile, a fun and quirky car that is perfect for tough street parking.

Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford
I spent a number of weeks living in Oxford over the summer whilst undertaking a work placement and took a visit to the Pitt Rivers Museum. For a start the architecture of the building is beautiful as you can see from the image above arches lining the sides and high ceilings. Then there are the museums, you can see the dinosaur section which is truly fascinating then you move through where there is a wonderful random and quirky collection of artifacts from ancient mummies to handcrafted models which are of superb quality. Just a wonderful place to visit.

Not the best pic
While out last night I came across this rather nice lamp, with random branches intertwining with simple small bulbs on the end. It has a tentacle like quality about it. Shame about the photography that wouldn't get entered onto any blog it's not meant to be floating!

Nice bit of animation
A fun but very strange website the first screen gives you two options one to go to the store which sells a mixture of some quite nice stuff mixed with some weird items. The other option takes you to a little animation shown above you are 'crappycat' and you navigate through the scenery encountering all sorts of things. Interesting and good animation but a bit peculiar, worth a try though if your bored.
V&A Museum
This place is a treasure of different historical periods in a number of areas of art and design from furniture to ceramics, the size of it is impressive and it's worth a look by anyone. There is a great mix of contemporary material to older work that is inspiring to see the craftsmanship that used to go into products before the mass production of today with intricate patterns and eccentricities left off products today but sometimes would be a welcome addition in certain current walks of life, that is in my humble opinion though, I am liking a mix between old and new currently as I have previously posted and may look to develop this idea further.

Paul Rand in video
A animation of Paul Rand's work and commentary by the man himself. A very interesting watch. He gives you tips on graphic design and how different parts need to be put together to create the balance in design work. Would you argue with him?
Paul Rand
A selection of work by Paul Rand an American graphic designer most famous for his corporate logo designs. Here is a selection of his work, what caught my eye was the poster for the New York Subways advertising company, 1947. The simplicity of the design reminds me of earlier Bauhaus work with the use of block shapes and lines and the use of type at angles across the canvas. His illustrations for children's book are also very fun. Overall he was just a top designer.
Elvis Montage
I just came across this image randomly, you see them around occasionally and they are very clever by using a number of small images relating to Elvis it creates a portrait in near perfect perfection. Something interesting that would be very hard to do. Try one yourself?
Don't Panic
These packs constantly come out in and around student cities they contain booklets, flyers, posters. Some of the designs are average to say the least in this context it is inspiring in that I want to design them better and not let them be put out into the world. However there is a place for design like this and I have come to realise this, it is cheap and effective in what it does i.e. getting the message across directly. However sometimes you come across the odd nice piece of work and it is worth the rummage through to find the hidden gems.
Attingham Park, Shropshire
Attingham park provides an elegant 18th Century Mansion with regency interiors and acres of park land. I visited the other week and just felt calm after living in town and the city it was relaxing and inspiring to see the tranquility of the place and give yourself time to think about the hustle-bustle style environment we live in everyday. It provided time to think and the building itself is beautiful in it's design and the regency interiors are something to contradict the minimalist design style that has my preference currently.
Boxhead's Website
This website from Boxfresh* Leeds exudes a simple elegance with everything on one page there is no need for navigating through complicated pages and finding it difficult to return to the previous screen because it is all they're right in front of you. The most complicated part is selecting whether to have the lights on or off changing the background colour - a nice little touch giving you something to do in something so simple.
The Bull Ring, Birmingham
When it was first built there was much debate as to whether the bubble building was a good piece of architecture and I myself was skeptical. However on a recent shopping trip and once again seeing this building I thought to myself that it has blended into to the surrounding scenery and is a great example of fun and innovative design. Future Systems architectural practice were inspired by a Paco Rabanne chain-mail dress and it suits Selfridges perfectly. If you haven't been inside is also a marvel in architectural design. Yes it is is different but it makes a statement and is a talking point for the city.

The Bauhaus, Berlin
While in Berlin I also went to the Bauhaus the home of simplicity of line, shape and form in design across the board from typography to architecture. I loved almost everything in there, how by using a minimal amount of 'graphic furniture' the designs are subtle but elegant and beautiful from the building designs to the poster designs. The movement was so far ahead of its time and has inspired so much work following on from it.
The Jewish Museum, Berlin
I visited this about 3 years ago and was extremely impressed the building itself is beautifully designed and is a pleasure to walk around. The content is very interesting looking back at the history of WW2 Germany, it's inspiring to see what people went through and how they carried on.
Pieter Hugo
I stumbled across Pieter Hugo's photography which evokes a number of emotions and is extremely powerful. First I was shocked and a little disturbed by the images the collection I particularly like are the hyena & other men which shows Nigerian 's who keep hyena's, monkeys and other animals as pets. Then I became saddened by the images, the animals look distressed and the state of certain things. The actual photography suits the mood of the content which focuses on one part with bleak surrounds. Very powerful. Then there's the website it uses a very plain setup - white background, sans-serif type and is just clean, clutter free and generally nice to look at.
1000 Type Treatments
This book has proved extremely useful it has a lot of nice pieces of work for reference and also contains rules on type and other useful tips. Just a nice little book.
Yes Studio - The Stands
Yes Studio do a number of nice pieces of work I especially like the work they've done for 'The Stands' album cover and promotional material it is an illustration inspired by pre-1980's analogue hi-fi equipment. The block colours that create the images are really complimentary and give the band a nice image. There's a certain elegance to the images.
This is Now
Ogilvy Advertising, London have created this advert for the new Ford Fiesta targeted at women it follows a number of boxes/tv screens that show different images and change shape until eventually the new Fiesta comes out of them with the slogan 'This is Now.' Nice little design and a lot better than some of the competitions efforts.
Attik
A local company that started in Huddersfield and is now worldwide they're website is very clean and simple with nice backgrounds, very easy to navigate, they're work isn't that bad either.
The Dark Knight Poster
I loved the film after watching it when it came out but I only just came across this poster, it gives you an insight into the movie with a representation of both main characters in one image. I like the hand-drawn quality of it with the simple use of typography to not detract from the image.

Charity Posters
These posters are designed by Eric Smith, he was diagnosed with cancer and put his feelings of the whole experience down onto paper with these minimalist designs, the proceeds are going to the Live Strong Foundation so they don't just look good they're also for a good cause.
US City Maps
In a similiar vain to my earlier post showing the work of Paula Scher these maps of famous US Cities by Ork Design are beautiful to look at, it's the cleanliness of the image of just black and white and the varying weights used.
Tarek Atrissi Design
I stumbled across the work of Tarek Atrissi Design and was extremely impressed by they're work simple typography nicely laid out on the page, the angles used are appealing on the eye and although some of the type is in arabic it is still visually interesting.

Mohawk Paper
The work by SEA for Mohawk paper is beautifully crafted and the photography by Lee Funnel is exquisite, exuberating elegance and purity. The delicate pastel colours of the rose set against the stark white background purvey the environmental message. It is a joy to look at.

I recently read the book 21 which the film 21 is based on. I was intrigued by the nature of card counting and it is extremely interesting looking into different people's approaches to making money. To see how much work goes into cheating didn't inspire me to follow suit but was an extremely enjoyable read.

LG Secret
The iPhone is the ultimate in sexy design and the must have accessory to be seen with but the LG Secret is another beautiful phone and the advert for it enticed me in further. You go on a journey through the features of the phone taking in woodland scenery and swimming pools on the way to seeing the final product. The advert sold it for me and I can keep watching the advert over and over.
Seduction Symposium Poster
This poster designed by Michael Bierut and Marian Bantjes for the Yale School of Architecture. I was drawn in by the sinuous lines of Bantjes' calligraphy. I love the complexity of the main heading combined with the perfectly aligned type descending in columns down the page.
Paula Scher
These are a selection of prints by Paula Scher, she creates maps from type and colours them in various styles. I thought these were an extremely interesting use of type and her collection generally caught my eye.

Linzie Hunter
After being given an insight into Linzie Hunter's work in the recent edition of 'Grafik' I took a closer look and was really impressed by her work. I have always been a fan of illustration and enjoy the colourful and child like qualities of her work.
Kronenbourg 1664 Advert
'Smaller Bubbles, Smoother Taste.'
This is a fun look through the brewing process of Kronenburg Beer. It shows white coated food scientists in a laboratory struggle with their equipment to make bubbles smaller until they are suitable for Kronenbourg 1664.
Gerrard, Kaka & Messi Adidas Advert
I really like the simplicity of this advert getting 3 of the greatest footballers in the world together to promote adidas football boots. The advert sees the players draw themselves through illustration and then they are animated with their footballing characters i.e. Messi is extremely skillful. It is extremely effective and finishes with the line 'find your place in the team.' This promotes to children the importance of all positions not just the goalscorers but does it in a fun and clever way and also gives you a personal view of the high profile players that appeals to consumers.

Step Brothers
I went to see this on yet another rainy summer day and it cheered me right up. From the first minute to the last the whole cinema was laughing. Classic Will Ferrell acting it always inspires how he plays the roles so well and is accompanied perfectly by John Rielly.
The old amongst the new. New York
When I first set my eyes upon this I was surprised seeing this old church standing among skyscrapers and modern architectural pieces that tower above. Despite this it holds its own and is as interesting as the big buildings surrounding it. This made me think about mixing old design styles more into my own pieces of work and how important it is always to take note of previous work.
